Contributor Guidelines

At Lands House & Home, we believe some of the most wonderful ideas come from the people who actually live them.
From renovating forgotten properties and cultivating kitchen gardens to restoring antique furniture, preserving traditional craftsmanship, raising chickens, and mastering the art of entertaining, our contributors bring their own experiences, knowledge, and perspectives to our readers.

You don't need to be a professional writer to contribute. You simply need to have something worth sharing.

These guidelines are here to help you get started.

Our editorial interests include

We'd love to hear your story.

Have an idea that doesn't fit neatly into one of these categories? We'd still love to hear it.

Your Experience Is What Matters

If we've invited you to contribute, there's a reason.

Perhaps you've spent twenty years renovating houses, discovered a wonderful way to grow vegetables in a tiny apartment, spent your career restoring antique furniture, or learned a few things about raising chickens that no beginner's guide ever mentioned.

That's the knowledge we're interested in.

We want to hear what you've tried, what worked, what didn't, and what you would tell someone attempting the same thing for the first time.

Don't worry about sounding like a magazine writer. Our editors can help with that.

We would much rather receive an imperfect article full of genuine experience than a perfectly polished article that tells us very little.

A Note About AI

We recognize that AI has become a useful part of the writing process, and we have no objection to contributors using it for grammar, spelling, organization, research assistance, or refining their ideas.

However, if we've invited you to contribute, it's because we value your knowledge, your experiences, and your perspective.

AI should assist your writing, not become the author of it.

Please ensure that the stories, recommendations, opinions, and experiences you share genuinely come from you. Any research or factual information gathered with AI should also be checked for accuracy.

Your voice is what makes your contribution interesting. We'd like to keep it that way.

Article Length & Writing Style

We don't impose a strict word count.

Some subjects deserve an in-depth explanation; others can be beautifully covered in a few paragraphs.

Write what feels appropriate for your subject, keeping the reader in mind.

We particularly appreciate articles that are approachable, informative, and enjoyable to read. Personal anecdotes, practical advice, useful recommendations, and even a little humor are always welcome.

Links, Recommendations & Your Own Work

We encourage contributors to share helpful resources, products, websites, and references that complement their articles.

If you're an artist, designer, gardener, renovator, chef, craftsperson, or business owner, you're also welcome to reference your own projects, services, or website when they are relevant to the story.

We don't believe in setting arbitrary limits on useful links. We simply ask that they serve the reader rather than turn an article into an advertisement.

Our editors may adjust or remove links that feel overly promotional, repetitive, or unrelated to the subject.

If a product, service, or business mentioned in your article has provided compensation, gifts, or another incentive, please disclose that relationship when submitting.

Photography & Images

We love seeing contributors' own photographs, particularly when they show a project in progress, a finished space, an artist at work, a garden, or something you've created yourself.

You're welcome to include photographs with your submission or suggest images that would complement your article.

Please only submit images you own or have permission to use for publication, and let us know if a photographer or another creator requires credit.

Our editorial team may also select or create additional imagery to complement your story and maintain the visual style of Lands House & Home.

Our Editorial Process

Once your article is submitted, our editorial team will review it for relevance, clarity, originality, and suitability for our readers.

We understand that not everyone comes from a publishing background, and that's perfectly fine.

Our editors may make minor adjustments to grammar, formatting, headlines, or structure to help your article read more clearly.

If substantial changes are needed, we may contact you to discuss them.

Please note that submitting an article does not guarantee publication. We reserve the right to accept, decline, edit, or schedule submissions according to our editorial needs.
